Water Sports

The Grand Strand and Myrtle Beach have all sorts of water activities for all sorts of people. No matter what your style, you can find an outfitter, a park, or a charter to satisfy your inner pirate or sea captain! Here's a sampling of all there is to do on the ocean and on the rivers of the Grand Strand area.

River Cruises

There are two yachts that set sail every day of the week except Sunday. They both go out of Georgetown Harbor, they are both immensely popular, and it's reccommended that you make reservations for either one, if you are interested in going. They are the Carolina Rover and the Jolly Rover. The Carolina Rover is a 40-foot pontoon boat, which means it is very very stable. All you seasick-prone people out there: pontoons are good and stable! Choose the Carolina Rover! The trip aboard this vessel takes three hours, inluding a 45-minute stop at North Island, where you can take a nature walk or search for shells on the remote primitive beach. The Jolly Rover's tour takes two hours and goes to Winyah Bay. The topsail schooner is an 80-foot vessel, and you get a live performance with your ticket: a pirate comes along for the ride and tells stories about ghosts and pirates.

River Kayaking and Canoeing

Black River Expeditions, three miles south of Georgetown, offers kayak and canoe expeditions. You can go for a half day in a kayak or a tandem kayak, or you can choose the good old fashioned canoe. The cost is under $50 for adults and less for children. They are located on US 701, at Kensington Gardens.

Black Water Adventures in Georgetown is another outfitter that offers reasonable kayaking and canoeing trips on the rivers that converge in Georgetown. The rivers are:

  1. Sampit River
  2. Black River
  3. Great Pee Wee River
  4. Waccamaw River
